Bump before breakout

I was told I have genital herpes by my doctor looking at a blister only. I have NEVER had a bump that itched or broke to form the blister. I go from one day being fine then the next day having an open blister. Is it possible to have HSV-1 without having the bumps that precede an ulcer/open sore?

Thank you for this page.

Thank you for submitting your question! I'm sure that many people can benefit from it.

The outbreak that you described above is typical. One minute you have no blister and the next...bam! You have them popping up! What's important to know is that your body is giving you signs that you are about to have an outbreak a day or so before it happens. In some people these signs are subtle while in others they are more obvious.

Over the years, mine have lessened considerably...which is both a good thing and bad thing. The good thing about it is that I'm not in as much discomfort as I used to be. The flu-like symptoms are almost a thing of the past with only a persistent headache and very mild fever remaining. The tingling in certain spots of my body is not as bad. The bad thing is that I have to be more aware of what my body is telling me whenever I have what could be a warning sign of herpes. As good as I am at predicting my outbreaks, I too have overlooked some of the milder symptoms and had a surprise outbreak.

Study and learn what the common warning signs and symptoms are and then be very mindful of them when they start to present themselves in your life. Sometimes keeping a journal helps.

I hope this has provided you some insight.

Wishing you success and happiness!

Bump before breakout
by: Anonymous

I posted about the bump before breakout once before. Now I have more answers and I implore everyone to seek answers. First, I would never trust a doctor to give you a diagnosis without tests. I have now went to two OGYN and my PCP. I now know that I do not have herpes but I have tested positive for Group Strep B and there is not a lot about it in non-pregnant women. There however is a few threads out there about it. In Group Strep B some women suffer from open sores and my normal OB just looked at the sore and said oh its herpes and gave me valtrex. The Valtrex didnt do anything for me and for almost 7-8 months I continued to have breakouts until I got tested for everything and got treatment for the strep.

Moral to the story get tested and make sure you are taking the right medication for you.
